DebPBX - History

The DebPBX project was initiated by Federico Pereira on March 31st. 2009, with Version 1.2. He and his team of IP telephony platform administrators and users found they had several good suggestions and contributions on the table but none of them filled the needs of the team to optimize the platform. There was no room to incorporate CentOS.

Because of the limited amount of access to the Data Center and the high workload, Federico felt the need to write a script to automate the installation of Asterisk and its components under the Debian Distribution. From this need arose the initiative to create the DebPBX project.

The name of the project is a combination of Debian, which is the name of the platform and the acronym PBX (Private Branch Exchange) Central Privada Manual. Thus the name DebPBX , and the English phrase (Because Open Source is the Future) In Spanish Porque el código abierto es el futuro.

The project grew slowly at first and version 1.0 was launched in 2009. The first portings to other architectures were done at the beginning of 2010. The first DebPBX, beta version 1.2x of FreePBX Asterik, was launched in early 2010 after a few script modifications and some updates, A2Billing and FOP amongst others. The team made available the first stable release, Version 1.3 DebPBX, with the official launching of the site www.debpbx.org on August 1st. of this year. DebPBX attempts to take VOIP PBX automation, innovation and productivity to the next level.
